Equally sacred are people and families on the economic margins.

1.) Believes housing is a human right

President Trump has bragged about his administration’s rescinding of an Obama-era fair housing rule that was meant to combat housing discrimination1 and has taken no major steps to relieve homelessness or expand the supply of low-cost housing during his term as president.2

Vice President Biden proposes to make Section 8 housing vouchers available to every family who qualifies, expanding the benefit to millions of low-income and housing-insecure households.3  Additionally, he plans to develop a national strategy for making housing a right for all.4

2.) Supports the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP)

President Trump’s 2021 budget proposes cutting the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program by more than $180 billion — nearly 30% — over the next ten years by radically restructuring how benefits are delivered, taking SNAP away from millions of adults who are not working more than 20 hours a week, and reducing benefits for many other households.1 He attempted to make similar cuts throughout his administration.2

Vice President Biden supports the COVID-19-related FEED Act, which proposes an increase in SNAP benefits by 15% during the deepening recession, and calls for providing low-income families with about $100 per month in extra nutritional support during recovery.3 As Senator, he fought for (and succeeded in) preventing the block granting of food stamps in the 1996 welfare reform law.4

3.) Would protect people from predatory financial practices

President Trump’s administration has been working to water down the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau’s rule to curb the practices of payday lenders since taking control of the consumer bureau in 2017.1

Vice President Bidenas a senator, introduced legislation to amend the Equal Credit Opportunity Act that would prohibited creditors from discriminating against consumer applicants for credit.2 He has proposed to create a new, federally-backed credit bureau to close the racial wealth gap.3
