NETWORK Calls for Immediate End to ICE Violence in Minneapolis and U.S. Communities

WASHINGTON, D.C.—In response to the second fatal shooting of a person in Minneapolis today by federal agents, NETWORK Executive Director Laurie Carafone issued the following statement:“We condemn the killing of another citizen at the hands of federal immigration enforcement officials. Today’s shooting is a horrific tragedy, and absolutely unnecessary. We call for the immediate de-escalation of violent tactics that are putting peaceful communities under siege by their own government. Our country is watching an oppressive and increasingly authoritarian administration terrorize families and children and violate citizens’ rights to peacefully witness and protest. Residents have been subjected to tear gas, pepper spray, flash bangs, and assaults from militarized, masked and heavily armed federal agents acting with reckless impunity.

“As people of faith, we decry the deaths of numerous people on the streets and in detention centers, and the harm done to countless families and our children. We must not look away but bear witness and speak out. NETWORK remains in loving solidarity with the Minneapolis community, clergy, and people around the country suffering cruelty by our government, and all those who are peacefully supporting them.”
